TURKISH WORLD CULTURE QUARTER
Topkapı, one of the historical venues in Istanbul, unites and competently blends the culture of the Turkish World that has a common background.
Formerly used as Topkapı Terminal on which we most probably treaded unknowingly, the history of the area has been converted to an utterly different atmosphere today. This is the area where the conquest of the city of Istanbul was realised, in other words, a dream has come true here, and Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror established his state tent here. And today, it is the home o another great reunion under the name of Turkish World Culture Quarter. Kadir Topbaş, the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality once said that it was his ‘‘biggest dream’’ to create the Turkish World Culture Quarter that bears witness to great reunions, and cultures in harmony.
A ‘‘quarter’’ composed of the Culture Houses of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), R.F. Tatarstan, the Balkans, RF. Bashkortostan has been established in the Turkish World Culture Quarter within Topkapı Culture Park.
The exhibitions that reflect the cultures of the countries allocated to the houses of Turkic Republics by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality take place, language courses are provided, cuisines and arts are introduced. There are the flags of the countries that represent in front of the houses, and by nature of their mission for communications and culture, they are coordinated by consulates and representative offices of the countries. Sabantoy, Nawruz and national independence days specific to the Turkish World are celebrated with a ceremony at Topkapı Culture Park Culture Houses every year.
